Spore

A publication that starts from what is felt, not from a beat.

What it is
An independent cultural publication about cultural migration and contemporary life in motion, beginning from specific, felt experience rather than a beat or a lifestyle category.
Why it matters
Most coverage of migration and displaced life gets flattened into lifestyle content. Spore is built to hold the more complex experience mainstream formats cannot.
My role
Founder and Editor.
Status
Ongoing independent publication, with active research, writing, commissioning and editing.
Strongest proof point
Four complete issue directions and covers establish a shared editorial system, while Issue 01 is being produced through ongoing research, writing and editing.

A publication that starts from what is felt, not from a beat

Most writing about migration and displaced life gets flattened into a lifestyle category, food, a city guide, a list of things to miss. Spore starts somewhere narrower and more specific: a meal, a change in work or identity, a single felt moment, then follows how capital, culture, history and intimacy actually move through a life from there. I am building it as Founder and Editor, shaping the editorial territory, the commissioning logic and the forms it takes, essays, interviews, images and experimental editing, rather than accepting the lifestyle format migration writing usually defaults to.

Four issues, one system, four different temperatures

The publication is organised as four issues that share one editorial system while each carrying a distinct emotional register: Bitter, Clarity Under Pressure; Float, A Sweetness Without Ground; Pop, A Spark You Can't Keep; Burn, Close Enough to Scar. The four issue directions and covers are complete, establishing a coherent identity and editorial architecture. Issue 01, Bitter, is an active body of research, writing, commissioning and editing.

An editorial practice built through sustained attention

Spore is not a one-off concept waiting to become real. It is the editorial practice itself: deciding what belongs, developing contributors and forms, writing, editing and holding a complex territory over time. Issue 01 brings essays, interviews and images into the system the four covers establish, building a publication capable of holding migration, belonging, desire and money without flattening them into lifestyle content. The work is ongoing because publishing is ongoing.
